President's Speech at AAA AGM 2020
kiaora !:Executive committee members of AAA /members of AAA/ Distinguished guests Ladies and Gentleman and friends It is a great pleasure to me personally to welcome all of you for this AGM. Haeremai Haeremai AAA’s inception was on 1st March 2014, The aim of AAA is to bring all Asian together, to be united and be supported, to integrate and be empowered.Through building and Support the Social well being of Asians living in Auckland through Community Services, Community Education and Community Developments.Fostering the spirit of Asian community through educational, social, cultural activities; promote the interests of its members.Providing civil and advocacy education to the people of Asian descent and encourage participation and to improve and enhance contributions to the society.Providing recreational facilities and activities in the interests of social welfare with the purpose of improving the conditions of life for those Asians in needs.Carrying out community projects and programs that will promote, advance and uplift social-cultural and economic, mental health and physical health well being of Asian Community. Actively promote multiculturalism in Auckland. I would like to say that we should function as a democratic society in which executive members would agree or disagreed after expressing their reasons for their opinions. Ideally, we should have consensus among our members regarding AAA matters. However, in practice, it is not possible. Thus, we should abide by majority decision that is more than 50 percent as written in the constitution. All members are urged to get familiarise and understand the constitution as it is a foundation of our governance. More importantly, It requires us to know our duties and obligations as officials and as executive members. Furthermore, we have drawn up a code of conduct as a guideline for executive members to follow. I hope all executives members would fully attend the monthly meeting so that ideas and opinions from the members can be communicated and discussed openly and honesty even though we might have different reasons to agree or disagree. If this is followed, AAA will grow healthy because members will trust and have confidence in each other. Collectively, it would bring positive energy and AAA can advanced its objectives to serve and empower Auckland Asian community.
Activities of AAA during the year from Sept 2019 to Sept 2020
We have four meetings since the last annual AGM 7th Sept, 2019. The reason was due to the restriction of numbers of people that can gather for meeting because of Covid-19. During the year, a Telematch games – a family oriented was planned in conjunction with Cornwall Park anniversary event but it was cancelled due to Covid-19. International cultural event was missed because it was too late to organise. AAA also have stall at Whau festival Chinese New Year, 2020. Application of two fundings was not successful for neighbourhood’s event and to improve Facebook. Secretary has been trying to improve AAA website and face book. Installation of AAA signs board at NO 1, Pollen Street has been done.We have also joined other team for badmingtonThanks for all the support received during this yearTena Koutou Tena Koutou
